Durham Regional Police and local community members support ISIS team development through review of local Cultural Diversity program
Chief Vern White and members of Durham Regional Police generously offered up their community-based Cultural Diversity Program as a case study exercise for the 17 members of ISIS 2006. The ISIS team was delivered via an executive bus to a rural estate home north of Oshawa where the full day event was held. DRPS Diversity specialist Tamisha Parris and Inspector Scott Burns arranged for several community representatives to attend during the morning to be interviewed in small groups by the ISIS Team. After a combined luncheon, and an intense working session by the ISIS members, the community guests yielded the house to senior members of the DRPS command, who received a report on the community’s perceptions of Durham’s ongoing diversity programming, including a summary of recommendations for improvement in the future. The exercise was conducted as part of the ISIS 2006 team preparations for similar, fast-paced inquiry and analysis in their upcoming global study tours.
