IBPRP 2003 hosts Nunavut delegation
Members of the IBPRP faced a highly sensitive and significant leadership challenge and gained respect and appreciation from a powerful delegation from Nunavut in the process. With the assistance of RCMP Chief Superintendent Vern White, himself a former OIC in Iqaluit, the Commissioner of Nunavut was flown in for the event and was joined by a community health and social service representative and two serving RCMP officers from the territory. Tackling the emotional issue of youth suicides in Nunavut communities, IBPRP members conducted intense research for several days in advance of meeting the delegation, where they presented observations and suggestions to enhance the roles of police and other human service agencies as they help local communities to address this ongoing crisis.
